In its never-ending quest to find ways to circumvent corporate and governmental power, WikiLeaks has announced that it is getting into the music business, releasing a CD called “Beat the Blockade” that is chock-full of songs about this whistle-blowing Web site’s struggles with Washington and American banks.
Proceeds from the sale of the album will go to keeping the Web site afloat in the face of decisions by several American financial companies — Visa, MasterCard, Bank of America, Western Union and PayPal — to stop processing payments for WikiLeaks, the group said in a statement on Thursday. The companies’ decisions, 19 months ago, have made it difficult for the site to collect online donations from supporters. MORE HERE
