Weighing the impact the city of Indio would experience should two of the country's most popular music festivals leave its borders, Indio Councilman Sam Torres on Thursday dropped his pursuit of a controversial ticket tax.
Torres' controversial plan alienated his fellow council members, angered residents, and prompted Paul Tollett, president of Goldenvoice, the promoter of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach: California's Country Music Festival, to threaten to move the festivals out of Indio should the plan be placed on the ballot.
But on Thursday July 5, 2012, after weeks of calling Tollett's threat “posturing” — Torres said he had reconsidered his plan. MORE HERE
