Elkie Brooks has one of the richest and most distinctive voices in showbusiness, and she has been entertaining people around the world for the last five decades.
An audition at age 15, in 1960, put her on a major package tour the following day. But despite a boost when gaining her first record contract, the decade proved to be a wilderness for her.
Her inclusion in rock bands Dada and Vinegar Joe brought her to a wider audience before becoming a solo success later in the seventies.
