R.I.P.: Andy Griffith

Andy Griffith, who spent the better part of three decades in American homes as the star of "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Matlock," died at his home in Dare County, North Carolina Tuesday morning July 3, 2012. Though he had a short-lived film and stage career, Griffith became a household name in 1960 when his eponymous half-hour series debuted and ran for the better part of the decade. MORE HERE

The TV legend was also a gospel singer. Not long after Matlock wrapped, Griffith turned his attention toward a bluegrass-tinged gospel album called I Love to Tell The Story: 25 Timeless Hymns. And unlike the vast majority of celebrity vanity albums, Griffith's was well-received within its field. Not only did the LP go platinum, but it won a GRAMMY in 1997 for Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album.
