R.I.P.: Frank Wilson
Frank Wilson, a Motown singer and producer, has died at the age of 71.
As an recording artist, Wilson only ever released one single. However, 1965's 'Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)' became a cult Northern Soul track. Only 250 copies of the 7" vinyl record were pressed and most of them were destroyed when Wilson decided he wanted to focus on writing and producing.
Only two or three copies of the single survived. One was sold in 2009 for a massive £25,000, making it the most expensive record ever sold at auction. MORE HERE

International Bluegrass Music Awards 2012
It was a hard year in the bluegrass world and the loss of icons such as Earl Scruggs and Doc Watson.
An emotional Steve Martin paid tribute to the late banjo innovator Scruggs with a special 30-banjo salute that included many of the world's top five-string players.
The IBMAs also saluted Watson and players Doug Dillard and Everett Lilly, as well as bluegrass promoter, actor and guitar picker Andy Griffith, all of whom died in the last year. Watson won guitarist of the year posthumously. MORE HERE

Celebrating their 50th anniversary, the Rolling Stones are readying their new retrospective documentary Crossfire Hurricane.
The film will take a look back at their career and track their rise from their teenage origins to stadium-sized glory and beyond. This preview trailer features footage old and new, from early television clips to massive arena shows and revealing candid shots of the band's more private moments.

Emmys For Scorsese's George Harrison Picture
“George Harrison: Living in the Material World,” the Martin Scorsese documentary originally nominated for six Creative Arts Emmys, came away with two of them in the awards announced Friday night September 21, 2012

The documentary itself won “Outstanding Nonfiction Special.” Director Scorsese also won the statue for “Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming.” Olivia Harrison attended the event.
The Creative Arts Emmy Awards are a forerunner to the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards, to be awarded tonight (September 23, 2012) in Los Angeles.

Universal Takes Over EMI
European regulators on Friday September 21, 2012 approved a reduced version of Universal Music’s $1.9 billion takeover of EMI Music, allowing Universal to expand its dominance as the world’s largest music company but significantly paring down its ambitions.
Universal agreed to divest itself of about a third of the assets of EMI, including most of Parlophone, its flagship label in Europe.
The divestment include global rights to release the music by the artists on those labels, which means that EMI will no longer release records by some of its biggest acts, including Coldplay, Pink Floyd and Kylie Minogue. Farm Aid is synonymous with star-studded rock concerts, like the one expected to draw 30,000 people to southeastern Pennsylvania on Saturday September 22, 2012. But the real work of the organization happens mostly behind the scenes across rural America every day.
Singer-songwriter Willie Nelson, president and co-founder of Farm Aid, believes the group's commitment to protecting farmland puts it on "the right side of history."
With more than $40 million raised through the musical performances and private contributions since the first Farm Aid concert in 1985, the organization works to keep family farmers on their land by awarding modest cash grants to groups that help small- and medium-size farms across the country. The Who's Next One
September 18, 1971, The Who scored their first and only UK No.1 album with 'Who's Next', the bands sixth LP release, featuring 'Won't Get Fooled Again'. Cover artwork shows a photograph, taken at Easington Colliery, of the band apparently having just urinated on a large concrete piling. According to photographer Ethan Russell, most of the members were unable to urinate, so rainwater was tipped from an empty film canister to achieve the desired effect.
Peaches Does Herself On Film
Canadian electro-pop artist Peaches has unveiled her new musical, Peaches Does Herself.
The film, based loosely on her own life, is based around a show filmed at Hebbel Hau Theater in Berlin, where the singer now lives. She assembled over 20 songs across four of her albums to create a retrospective musical called 'anti-jukebox'.
A film of the show – featuring exploding penises amongst a string of her traditionally provocative performances – made its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this week. MORE HERE & HERE
Brian May : Badgers Best Friend
Queen's Brian May has spoken out in defend of badgers again.
The guitarist appeared on BBC Breakfast to defend the striped furry creatures, who are currently under threat after farmers in England have been given a license to shoot them in a bid to reduce tuberculosis in cattle for the first time in Gloucestershire.
May has been campaigning on the issue for some time, founding Team Badger – an umbrella organization of numerous animal welfare groups who hope to lobby the Government to reverse the decision.Video HERE

ESPN will commemorate The Rolling Stones’ 50th Anniversary on Monday nights throughout the National Football League season this fall with Legend to Legend, a unique collaboration with the Universal Music Group that will combine Monday Night Football highlights with classic tracks from the legendary band featuring Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood.
ESPN is licensing 16 Rolling Stones tracks, spanning the early 1970’s release of Exile on Main

On October 3, 2012, music stars and friends will join together to celebrate the life and music of Levon Helm at “Love for Levon.”
The star-studded benefit concert will take place at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey and will feature once-in-a-lifetime collaborations by friends and admirers gathered together to celebrate and honor Levon Helm.
Performances will include Gregg Allman, Dierks Bentley, Patty Griffin, Warren Haynes, John Hiatt, Bruce Hornsby, Jorma Kaukonen, The Levon Helm Band, Mavis Staples, Joe Walsh, Lucinda Williams and many more.

Lana Del Rey Covers Blue Velvet
Lana Del Rey – who became the new face of the H & M fashion brand’s LA noir collection in July 2012 – appears in a 30-second clip modelling the brand’s autumn/winter selection.
The 26-year-old performs the song Blue Velvet, first made famous by Tony Bennett, popularized by Bobby Vinton and immortalized on screen by David Lynch. The feel of the video is certainly in homage to the latter. MORE HERE

A guitar stolen from Chuck Berry earlier this week was returned to the music legend Friday September 14, 2012.The 1978 Gibson ES 355 guitar, valued at $50,000, was reported stolen Monday afternoon September 10, 2012 from an office at a home Berry owns.

Americana Honors & Awards 2012
The best and brightest in roots music gathered at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium this past Thursday night (September 13, 2012) for the Americana Music Association’s 11th annual Americana Honors & Awards.
Gillian Welch and her musical partner Dave Rawlings, picked up two of the evening’s biggest honors. Relative newcomers The Civil Wars (who won New/Emerging Artist in 2011) and the Alabama Shakes each went home with new awards, and the Guy Clark tribute album This One’s For Him took Album of the Year. A list of winners and honorees HERE.
Performers included Lifetime Achievement honorees Richard Thompson, Bonnie Raitt, and Booker T. Jones.
On November 10, 2012, Austin City Limits on PBS will broadcast an edited version of the program.
