It was packed with sea shanties being covered by the likes of Richard Thompson, Baby Gramps, Nick Cave, Bill Frisell, Eliza Carthy, Martin Carthy and the UK Group, Akron/Family and heaps more.
It was born in the mind of film director Gore Verbinski and enhanced by the actor Johnny Depp. They were filming “Pirates of the Caribbean II” and very much ensconced in a lot of pirate culture and songs of the time. The good news is it’s back!
Son of Rogue’s Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chanteys. It will be released on Anti-Records February 19, 2013 as a double CD and will feature the likes of Tom Waits, Keith Richards, Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, Patti Smith, Sean Lennon, Shane McGowan (video above) and many more.
