Carrie Underwood will star in NBC's live broadcast of "The Sound of Music" late next year.
The Grammy-winning, multiplatinum record-selling Underwood, 29, joins a starry roster of women who’ve played Maria.
Mary Martin originated the role on Broadway in 1959. Julie Andrews famously twirled and trilled the title song in the Oscar-winning film six years later. Stage vet Rebecca Luker starred in the 1998 Broadway revival. MORE HERE
