That's how many albums, singles, music videos and digital tracks were bought by U.S. consumers last year, a 3.1 percent increase from 2011, according to Nielsen.
Downloads of digital albums from Apple's iTunes and other sites climbed 14 percent. Sales of physical formats, including compact discs, cassettes and LPs, dropped 13 percent.
The best-selling record of 2012 was Adele's "21," the first album to rank No. 1 for two years in a row. MORE HERE
