Keeping in line with the album’s title, the result is a moody and rather sombre affair - with only the most minimal of instrumental accompaniment, and Kristofferson’s trademark coarse baritone voice at the forefront. Mind you, the famous outlaw mentality still cuts through it like a bullwhip.
Recorded over just several days, but written over several years, the ten songs were produced by another legend, namely the almighty Don Was.
