Free SXSW Music

For the ninth year running, SXSW is sharing a whole glut of DRM-free tracks from performing artists, and this year, the total is upwards of 7 gig.

All the tracks are available on the SXSW site, but for your convenience, Ben Stolt has collected all 1,210 tracks and crammed them into two torrents for your listening pleasure. If you want to check it out, just hop on over to the (Unofficial) SXSW Torrent page and get going. In these days of streaming music, having a big ol' chunk of music on your hard drive might not be quite the same thrill as it used to be, but hey, it's free and guilt-free.

NPR's All Songs Considered headed out on another musical trek to Austin for this year's South By Southwest festival. Before hitting the road they listened to songs from more than a thousand bands scheduled to play the festival, in search of some great new discoveries.

On this edition of the show hosts Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton, NPR Music editor Stephen Thompson and NPR Music critic Ann Powers come together to share some of what they found, and talk about the bands they're most excited to see. Listen HERE
