A vodka bottle thrown onto the stage during a Toots and the Maytals concert in Richmond, Virginia sent lead singer Frederick “Toots” Hibbert to the hospital Saturday night (May 18, 2013) and forced the reggae pioneers to cut short their performance.
A video of the incident shows Hibbert, 70, being struck hard on the head, dropping his mike and staggering off the stage. A rep for the concert organizers said the singer was released a few hours later in good spirits; unknown is whether he’ll continue an acoustic tour as planned.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that a 19-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault and public intoxication.
