Robert Plant Presents Music of Mali

In 2003, Robert Plant travelled to Mali to perform at the famed Festival in the Desert alongside Ali Farka Toure, Tinariwen and many others. Zirka is an 8 part, mostly self-shot documentary by Robert chronicling his experiences.

In olden times, the footage might have turned up on PBS, but Mr. Plant has instead broken it into eight segments, to be posted on his YouTube page. The first episode is above; Part 2 will be posted on November 18, 2013 with installments following every Monday until December 30, 2013.

Mr. Plant, in a statement, called the Malian trip “a journey that could only reinforce the power and the great gift of music across and between cultures. MORE HERE
