Bono and his U2 bandmates, including The Edge, gave an emotional performance during the Academy Awards where they sang Oscar-nominated original song, "Ordinary Love
," from the Weinstein Co. biopic, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom
. During the performance, a slideshow of pictures of the late Nelson Mandela appeared in the background honoring the band's personal friend.
"Ordinary Love
" was released November 21, 2014, less than a week before Mandela died. Harvey Weinstein personally asked the band to write the original score for the film. U2 did not win the Oscar but did receive a standing ovation. MORE HERE
